The Essex branch of NAWT is based at Barehams Kennels in Orsett Brentwood Road, Orsett, Essex RM16 3DR and always have Dogs and cats looking for loving homes.

We always need new volunteers in all aspects of our work. Whatever your interest, whether it is walking our rescued dogs, helping at a stall at the fund raising events, attending Boot Sales, making items, collecting items in your area, home checking, taking animals to the vets, or fostering kittens, why not get in touch with us and learn more about us.

The dogs are vaccinated, neutered and micro chipped, wormed and had flea control before being re-homed. All the cats we re-home are neutered at six months, micro chipped and have been wormed and had flea control. We ensure that all kittens homed from us are also neutered at the appropriate age.

ARK’s main aim is to sterilise street dogs, on average 50 per month, at the same time they  vaccinate against rabies.

Ark also take in sick and injured animals, not just dogs, but any animal requiring medical attention and they take in abandoned puppies and try to re-home all those they can, and put the street dogs back in the environment that they came from.

Ark sterilise both male and female dogs, as this reduces the incidences of fighting between them which may lead to injuries, and then maggot wound.  These wounds become quickly infected with maggots in the hot Keralan climate.  A maggot wound can kill an animal in days if it does not get medical treatment.

In this climate mange is another serious problem. Many animals require several months of treatment before they can be released.

Will and Lynda support Ark (Rescue Centre in Kerala, India.)  All of the money raised from training treats that Lynda sells at dog training, goes towards helping the dogs in care and they have funded vaccination and sterilisation of nearly 50 dogs so far. Approximately 60 dogs are sterilised per month, plus 30 to 40 being cared for in the kennels, that doesn't include the 25 or so dogs that live at the centre.
